Divorce Care is a 13-week Life Recovery Course on healing from the life threatening devastation experienced in the wake of a divorce.
Divorce Care supports participants wherever they are in the hurtful process and prepares them for what they will experience in the future.
What are the Goals of Divorce Care within the Church?
The goal of Divorce Care is to come along side the individual and develop a relationship with them in the midst of their pain, while providing a safe environment for them to reflect, adjust and heal from the “life wreck” they are experiencing. If necessary and if possible, Divorce Care will connect them to one to the pastors at RLM for additional biblical counseling and support.
The second goal is to help the person understand that the only way to receive true healing is through a personal relationship with Christ. After accepting Christ as their Lord and Savior, if they have not already, they will be encouraged to get baptized and continue their growth and healing.
The third goal is for the Divorce Care leader and the participant to recognize (during the healing process) that it is time to move forward by getting plugged into a community home group or small group (Recovery, Family classes/activities, Biblical classes, etc.)
During the personal healing process, it is important to discourage participants from becoming involved in another relationship; instead, they should stay the healing course by allowing the material and group dynamics provide the support they need. By realizing that divorce is an ongoing process, and not an event to “get over”, they can become a “new” Christ-centered person and avoid becoming “person, place or thing” centered.
